A CREATIVE THINK-TANK FOR ARCHITECTURE AND BEYOND

MNAC Museum

 Architecture

Our proposal for the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) seeks to revolutionize the museum's role within the city, transforming it into an interactive and accessible urban hub that merges seamlessly with Lisbon's Chiado district. Central to this vision is the creation of a hybrid public space, where the museum and city engage in a continuous dialogue, eliminating physical and perceptual barriers between them.
The design introduces interconnected spaces that open the museum to the public squares, creating welcoming, accessible entrances that draw visitors into the heart of MNAC. These spaces foster a natural flow between the vibrant city life and the museum, making art an integral part of everyday urban experiences.
Accessibility is a core element of the project, going beyond mere compliance to ensure that all individuals, regardless of ability, can move freely and engage with both the museum and the surrounding public spaces. The proposal also emphasizes flexibility, with adaptable areas designed to host a variety of cultural and educational activities, ensuring the museum remains a dynamic participant in the cultural life of the city.
In this new hybrid space, MNAC becomes more than a cultural institution—it becomes a living forum where art, community, and urban life converge. This transformation envisions a future where the museum is a pillar of cultural accessibility, inspiring learning, discovery, and interaction in the heart of Lisbon.
