A CREATIVE THINK-TANK FOR ARCHITECTURE AND BEYOND

The Wave

Architecture + Landscape Design

The proposal for a rethinking of this new boardwalk waterfront has been set to have a strong formal character and an immediately recognizable shape. The beach is divided into two different sectors: one facing the city, which acts as a climate-responsive buffer space that strives to give resilience to the shoreline, and the other one facing the water - an enjoyable ocean park that will act as the main attractive feature of the whole project. In between these two areas lays The Wave, a fluid pier that connects nature and the urban fabric into a new unique piece of landscape design.
This curve-shaped path is the walkable connection line between a set of different special functions: the “Folies”. Each one of these scenographic moments represents a different way to both enjoy the ocean park and protect it as well. They act as a system of activation points that foster a smooth transition between the seaside and the resilient buffer space at its back. This latter area has to be intended as a succession of dunes that will help the city prevent potential destructive climate events and slow down an inevitable coastal erosion issue that is already well on its way.
