In a world of ever-changing variables, there’s one thing that could be easily defined as constant instead: acceleration. During the last decades of the XX century, we crafted a system that pushes life and its supporting means to top speed. Our habits have never been more aggressive and greed is our ultimate master of puppets. We push more because we want “more”, and that “more” is something that we want to achieve as quickly as possible. Social amnesia and climate breakdown are the dismal consequences of our off-balance existence. Critical tipping points are now utterly visible: we need to pull the break. SLOWELITE strives to set a new approach to urban design. The project’s main goal is to embrace a set of policies that try to slow down the acceleration process that pervades our society. We imagined 4 different realms of application:
