The FREELANDER project is an immersive, eco-sustainable intervention inspired by the nomadic tribes and historical inhabitants of the desert, such as the Paiute Indians. It allows users to reconnect with the land through innovative, environmentally conscious technologies. The project aims to create a deep, meaningful interaction with the local environment while minimizing environmental impact.
Key components include:
ARGO – A wind-powered vehicle designed to explore the desert, with backup pedal power, facilitating a journey through the landscape by harnessing natural wind currents. It accommodates a crew of 12 and follows an optimized route that takes advantage of favorable winds.
R.A.N.C.H. – A survival kit that allows visitors to experience the desert like true nomads. It provides the tools necessary for a two-day journey, including a temporary shelter (HUT) and an environmental map for navigation.
GHOST DANCERS – Sculptural landmarks inspired by the Spirit Dance ritual of the Paiute tribe, acting as the base camp and a central meeting point. These structures provide shelter and are designed to symbolize collective ritual and gathering.
All elements of FREELANDER are designed using sustainable, recyclable materials, such as aluminum, hemp fabric, and recycled plastics. The project focuses on light, temporary structures that leave no trace and operate with minimal environmental impact. The use of wind, solar power, and biodegradable materials ensures that visitors can experience the desert sustainably.
FREELANDER offers a slow, immersive experience in nature, encouraging environmental awareness while allowing users to explore a remote, untouched landscape with minimal human impact.
